Steel Plate Rolling
End uses for rolled steel plate are vast. Products made from rolled steel plate include cylinders, conical shapes, column wraps (stiffeners), bridge supports and industrial duct systems. Albina Co., Inc.'s plate rolling capabilities include 3/4" plate up to 10'0" in width (pre-bend up to 5/8" thick). Albina can also roll flat Bar the Easy Way to any thickness and size thru 4" x 22" where the section is dependent on thickness to width. For an in-depth explanation of the steel plate rolling process see our Bending Methods page. For more images and rolled steel product applications visit our Manufacturing and Industrial Parts page to see the various tanks we have produced as well as the full scope of parts we produce for various manufacturers.
Curved Aluminum Span Bridge at Riverview Park
Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 40 foot lengths of tube steel 8" x 8" x .500" wall for the Riverview Park Aluminum Span Bridge located in Washington state. The steel bending for the span bridge consisted of rolling the material to a 209 foot radius. All of the tube steel was rolled to AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) specifications. After the steel bending was complete, Albina's customer fabricated the bridge into 2 sections at 140 feet per section. Albina produces architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, state park, etc. [caption id="attachment_839" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Curved Steel Span Bridge[/caption] [caption id="attachment_840" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Bent Tube Steel 8" x 8" x .500" wall Aluminum[/caption] [caption id="attachment_841" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Curved Steel Span Bridge Curved Steel Aluminum Span Bridge[/caption]
Steel Spiral Staircase at University of Nebraska Business Administration Building
Albina rolled the following materials to create a beautiful multi-level steel spiral staircase at the University of Nebraska Business Administration Building. A spiral, circular or helical bend occurs in a plan view with rise in elevation. Steel spiral staircases are architecturally and visually appealing, functional and an effective use of space. 48 pieces Tube Steel 20" X 8" X .500" WALL A500 GR B 12 pieces Tube Steel 8" X 6" X .250" WALL A500 GR B 48 pieces Tube Steel 3½" X 2½" X .188" WALL A500 GR B 12 pieces Tube Steel 3½" X 1½" X .188" WALL A513 48 pieces Tube Steel 2½" X 2½" X .188" WALL A500 GR B 12 pieces Tube Steel 2½" X 1½" X .188" WALL A500 GR B 28 pieces Angle 3" X 3" X ¼" A36 [caption id="attachment_805" align="aligncenter" width="169"]Multi-Level Steel Spiral Staircase Multi-Level Steel Spiral Staircase[/caption]
Mobile Friendly Website Now Available!
In recent news, we released a “mobile-friendly” website (www.albinaco.com) that provides fabricators, architects, engineers and many more with vast interactive calculators, reference materials, and capacity charts to assist with all of their bending calculations and provide answers to their technical questions. The “mobile-friendly” site is completely responsive and is easy to use and navigate on your mobile devices as well as your desktop. Web Albina Co., Inc. offers custom bending calculators designed to assist customers with required bending calculations, and to provide bending tolerances and tangent material requirements needed to accurately bid a job. In addition to the general bending calculators, Albina also offers a Spiral Math Calculator to allow customers to enter known data for spiral stringers, automatically calculate Degree of Pitch and Arc Length, and save the calculated information in their files for future reference or submit a report directly to Albina Co., Inc. for a quote! It is that simple. Additional highlights include a virtual tour of the company, material capacity charts and bending profiles, brochures, technical articles, industry links and numerous work examples including professional photographs of installed projects and videos of actual bending processes. Albina has several easy to use forms for requesting information or for obtaining a quote. Online ordering is also available through Albina’s site for Duct Systems and Component Parts and a secure login can be obtained to view pricing and place orders from your smart phone or desktop. “The driving force behind releasing a new “mobile-friendly” website was to create a seamless user experience for our customers no matter what device they use to access information. We wanted to provide an informational tool rich with easy to read capacity charts and stunning visual images to give the user a quick view into our capabilities. We also wanted to provide accessible tools to assist users in their daily job functions.” –Brian Smith, President Albina Co., Inc.
Customer Quote of Appreciation for Steel Bending Quality
We always love to receive positive feedback from our customers when we meet or exceed their steel bending and fabrication needs. Here is a recent quote of appreciation for some curved steel we provided for a project currently being erected in Seattle, WA. "I would like to thank you and your team for your efforts on making this project a huge success. Because of your great workmanship and detail to meeting such tight tolerances, everything is fitting up in the field with no problems. In fact most everything in the field is fitting to +/- 1/8”. The erector is 85% complete with the erection and they are hanging the steel 2-3 times faster than they had anticipated with no problems. That is phenomenal. The on-site welding inspector told us that he has never seen anything fit so well with no problems in his lifetime."
Curved Steel Construction in Seattle, WA.
There is an impressive curved steel building currently being erected in Seattle, WA. right now! For The Spheres, Albina’s scope of work included approximately 750,000# and 1.050 pieces of bent steel material consisting of TS 9" X 5" X .500" WALL A500 GR B, TS 10" X 6" X .500" WALL A500 GR B, and TS 12" X 8" X .500" WALL A500 GR B. The curved steel sections were bent the easy way and a portion bent off-axis. All material is AESS with very tight tolerances. The project consists of 8 miles of welds and 8 miles of grinding performed by the lead fabricator! The amount of welds and grinding was significant, but thanks to Albina's ability to bend portions of the project, a significant amount of welding and grinding was avoided. The bends fit to fixtures (fabrication) within 1/32nd of an inch! Almost NO correction was needed during fabrication or erection. Induction Heating Process Creates Near 4D Bend
Albina Co., Inc. was recently tasked with forming 10” Sch80 pipe to a 50” center line radius. That is nearly a 4D bend! Our new induction heating source and bending process has helped us expand the material range we can work with and the radii that we can bend. It has allowed us meet the “induction only” heating requirements that certain projects specify. Call us today to learn more! Structural Steel Bending at Peterson Auto Museum
Albina Co., Inc. bent 36 pieces of 6 5/8" OD X .375" wall round steel tubing and 384 pieces of 6" SCH80 6061-T6 ALUM to create the unique shape for the Peterson Auto Museum in Los Angeles, CA. Albina cut, bent and trimmed all pieces per the provided drawings. While most of the bent material was covered with the "skin" of the building, the bent steel parts are what gave the museum its' unique shape and appearance. Every part was slightly different and needed to be processed to very tight tolerances. Photos courtesy of Zahner.
