Structural Steel Bending for Treehouses
In July 2016, and article by Melissa Dalton was published in Oregons 1859 Magazine featuring treehouse architects Michael Garnier and Charles Greenwood. Albina has provided curved structural steel supports for the Garnier/Greenwood team on several of their projects. Click here to read the full article in 1859 Oregon's Magazine.
Steel Supported Bridge at Universal Studios Hollywood
Albina recently completed 65,000# of bent steel  for a curved span bridge that connects Los Angeles' Metro Universal City City Red Line Station to Universal Studio Hollywood's Wizarding World of Harry Potter Attraction. Albina bent the following structural steel materials for the 400 foot, L-shaped bridge span bridge. 14” OD x .375” Wall bent down to a 60 ft radius 16” Od x .500” wall bent down to a 59 ft radius 17” Sch80 A106B smls bent down to a 59 ft radius 8.625” OD x .500” wall API-5L bent down to a 44 ft radius 8.625” OD x .625” wall API-5L bent down to a 202 ft radius The steel was fabricated by Thomson Metal Fab. How to Load a Truck with 47,000# of Bent Structural Steel
Today we loaded truck 2 of 4, consisting of 47,000# of bent structural steel, for The Mercedes-Benz project in Gilbert, AZ. This particular truck included various sizes of square tubing, 4" Angle and 36" Wide Flange. This truck will be delivering to Mesa, AZ for fabrication. This was a difficult load, as you can see in the picture below, because of the many different types of material on the load. However, with the expertise of our veteran loaders working with the driver, we were able to stack everything in a very safe manner, of which the driver was thrilled to haul such a secure load. Curved Steel Handrail at Popular Tourist Destination
If you plan on taking a roadtrip through Oregon this summer, program your GPS for a stop at Oregon's Historic Vista House. Vista House is an observatory at Crown Point in Multnomah County, Oregon and is a National Natural Landmark. The Vista House also serves as a memorial to Oregon pioneers. During the interior and exterior restoration of the building in the early 2000's, Albina Co., Inc. bent a curved steel handrail to not only upgrade the 1918 facade designed by Edgar M. Lazerus, but to also help make the Vista House accessible to the handicapped. The curved steel handrail lines a ramp to the entry way of the dome and on the interior a disappearing lift between levels was added to assist handicapped visitors. Extremely Tight Tube Steel Spiral Stringers for Lakeside Campus Building Staircase
Enjoy the latest install pictures of the 20” x 8” x .625” wall tube steel which provides the base supports for a heavy weight bearing spiral staircase at the Lakeside Campus in Richardson, Texas. The tube steel was spiral bent the easy way using our induction heat source and increment bend method. The tube steel was bent down to a 7’ 7” center line (plan view) radius and all bends were to AESS standards. Albina also bent tube steel 20” x 12” x .625” wall for a different section of the spiral staircase. The 20″ x 12″ material was bent down to a 13’ 9” center line (plan view) radius and all bends were to AESS standards. The specifications to bend to a center line radius this tight is almost unheard of, but Albina was able to do it to perfection! Helical, Elliptical and Parabolic Bent 3-1/2" Sch40 Steel Pipe for Wind Sculpture
A customer recently called us and asked if we were ready for a difficult steel bending project out of 3½” Sch40 pipe.  The project was for a Wind Sculpture in Oak Harbor Washington.  The designer was hopeful that the material could be bent to countless radii and configurations.  Some of the radii are elliptical, some bends are compound, some bends are helical bent, the list goes on. Once Albina reviewed the drawings we jumped at the opportunity to perform. The experts at Albina make the seemingly impossible bending projects, possible. Curved Steel Beams for the Juneau, Alaska Seawalk
Some would think that a 24” tall beam weighing 84# per ft would be a big chunk of steel. One might even ask if it is possible to bend such a large section of steel. The answer would be to contact Albina. We are experts in bending the very small and the very large….you name it and we will bend it. Yes W24x84# beam is a large chunk of steel, but certainly not too large for the experts at Albina. A loyal customer out of Deer Park, Washington contacted us to bend this material the easy way down to a very tight 42 ft radius. After bending the 25,000# of steel, our customer is fabricating the sections and will eventually ship to Alaska for the new Juneau Seawalk. South Reserve Street Pedestrian Bridge Crossing Features AESS Curved Steel
Albina shines on a steel bending project requiring material that isn’t a mill stocked or produced shape! A loyal customer out of Billings Montana contacted us to partner up on the South Reserve Street Pedestrian Crossing project. This project was unique as it required TS 18" X 18" X .625" WALL A588 CORTEN material that one couldn’t purchase from a mill. This tubing had to be fabricated from plate. Albina teamed up with a local forming partner in Tualatin, OR and had 60 ft lengths of plate formed in a press break and then welded to form this unique square tubing. After this material was formed and fabricated, Albina took over the steel bending portion of the job. We are curving 8 lengths x 60 ft long of this material to a 148’ 3” inside radius. All of the materials need to meet AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) requirements. No challenge is too difficult for the experts at Albina! University of Colorado Health Center Project Utilized Curved Steel
As a University of Colorado alumni graduating in 1998 I would never pass up on an opportunity to provide bent structural steel for my alma mater. A great customer of ours from Colorado contacted us months ago presenting the opportunity to partner up on the University of Colorado Health Center project. We jumped at the opportunity to team up and work on this project. The project consists of 8 pcs of 12 3/4" OD X .375" WALL A252 GR3 which is a special grade of material. This material is being bent to various radii ranging from 114 ft to 438 ft. We are also bending 18 pcs of MC12 X 10.6# A36 the hard way (against the web) radii ranging from 439 ft to 468 ft. We are also providing 10 lengths of W44 X 290# A992 bent the hardway to radii ranging from 439 ft to 468 ft.
