Albina Co., Inc. had the opportunity to feature several of their high-profile bent steel projects in many of the national trade publications during the month of February. NOMMA's (National Ornamental of Misc. Metals Association) Annual Buyers Guide features several spiral, circular and helical staircases using materials such as plate, pipe, tube and structural members. It also highlights some of the decorative gates, fences and signage that we specialize in. One new product that Albina is offering includes complete handrail kits. The handrails are bent and trimmed per the customer's drawing, the mid-rails trimmed and coped, and the assemblies are supplied as individual parts or fabricated complete! Albina specializes in architecturally designed pedestrian bridges and walk-ways erected at transportation stations, universities, museums, large businesses, and state parks. Albina was just awarded another project consisting of 1,050 pieces of 2" OD X .065" WALL 6061-T6 ALUM. These parts are being processed complete by Albina (cut, bent, trimmed, drilled and machined) and the work was moved to Albina from China because the customer required better quality and a more favorable lead-time. In addition, the customer was pleasantly surprised with the competitive pricing we were able to provide on the job. The lowest price should not be the main determining factor when choosing a steel bending contractor. Albina Co., Inc. recently cut, bent, trimmed, weld marked and galvanized 30,000# of bent pipe and tube for a post tensioning piping (conduit) project. Materials we processed included: 5" OD X .250 WALL A500 GR. B, 4½" OD X .237 WALL A500 GR. B, and 3½" OD X .216 WALL A500 GR. B

Manufacturing projects, including those that specify bent steel applications, should be "made in the USA." Sending projects, small or large, overseas is not always the most cost effective way to get the job done. Albina Co., Inc. has proven that we can provide competitively priced, higher quality runs than international alternatives. Keeping manufacturing projects in the USA allows for better lead-times, better inventory control, and better cash flow options for customers. Albina Co., Inc. has worked with both well-established manufacturing firms requiring high production runs, as well as smaller start-ups looking for protypes to provide more cost-effective solutions than overseas alternatives. Some examples of products we have helped produce on American soil include frames and components for the electric automotive market, various parts for alternative energy technologies, aluminum and stainless lifts for the marine industry, tradeshow displays and components and parts for power tools.

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 64 lengths x 30 ft of Tube Steel 6” x 4” x .250” wall for some curved roof trusses for the Presidio Parkway Doyle Tunnel in San Francisco. Over 30,000# of material was bent the hard way to a 52 foot radius. The Presidio Tunnel will have the same arched portal design as the roof that was installed at Battery Tunnel. All of the material was bent to architecturally exposed structural steel standards and as the customer stated during their fabrication and assembly of the parts, “The pictures below will show you how perfect things fit”.

In addition to spiral stringers and spiral staircases, Albina Co. Inc. now offers handrail kits. Albina will bend and trim handrails per your drawing, mid-rails can be trimmed and coped, and assemblies can be supplied as individual parts or fabricated complete. We recently provided a very large handrail kit consisting of 1-1/4" Sch40 A53B and 1" Sch40 A53B bent to a 3" centerline radius and the mid-rails were trimmed, miter-cut and coped per the customers specifications.

Albina Co., Inc. recently bent 11,000# of 50 foot lengths of W21 x 62# A992 structural steel the hard way to produce some curved roof trusses. In addition to the bent wide flange, Albina also bent various sizes of tube steel ranging from 8" x 8" x .375" wall to 18" x 6" x .500" wall both the hard way and the easy way down to a 23'-0" outside radius. Albina has been involved in numerous hospital and clinic remodels and new construction builds. Albina provides curved roof trusses and canopies for many industries. Some other noteworthy projects include: a) 24" OD x 1" wall pipe 46' 0" outside radius bent within PFI standards St. Mary's Center for Health Reno, NV. b) 125,000# of Tube Steel rolled to AESS standards. The material ranged from TS 10" x6" x .375" wall to TS 20" x 8" x. 625' wall for the New South Main Health Clinic in Utah.

Albina recently bent 38,000# of 45 foot lengths of W14 x 99# A992 structural steel the hard way to a 31'-3 5/8" inside radius. Albina also bent 10,000# of 40 foot lengths of W21 x 62# A992 structural steel the hard way to a 81'-1-3/4" outside radius. Finally, Albina bent 22,000# of 50 foot lengths of W21 x 44# A992 structural steel the hard way to a 81'-1-3/4" outside radius. Albina has been involved in many airport renovations.
